Crown Jewels of Poetic Life
Members hear me, never get weary,
for our freedom’s march is nearly done.
My brothers and sisters, if we seek liberty,
then we must stand together as one!
Though there are difficult days ahead,
know that it no longer matters to me now,
because I have been to the mountain top,
and witnessed our lord fulfil His vow.
Old hymns are now the gems I sing,
forever leaning on the voices from the past.
From every mountain top let freedom ring!
Marching on 'til we’re free at last!
A man unwilling to die for something,
remains a man, but one who is unfit to live.
For without purpose you live for nothing,
he who has nothing, has nothing to give.
Together, we’re fighting for recognition,
for we’re free men enslaved by this society.
But the means we use must be as peaceful,
as the desired ends we seek.
White America cannot save itself by
preventing Blacks from being saved.
And without struggle there is no progress,
as we endure the process of change.
It is our nettlesome task to discover,
how unified power becomes our strength.
Every year adds to the Black man’s number,
growing stronger than our weakest link.
We must develop a situation in which
the government finds it wise to collaborate.
Without demand, power concedes nothing,
and love is the power that conquers hate.
Our people are going to be a people,
do not lose courage, let us keep the faith!
We as people will get to the promise land,
lest we perish along the way.
