He thought he could spark a race war
he whose hatred boiled within his blood,
a racist who sought to even the score
ready to die for a hate he loved.
Holding fast to heroic lies from the past
valiant tales about the bravery of his roots,
where his forefather’s fought en masse
dying to give birth to Dylann Roof.
Born believing in his southern heritage
becoming the rebel in his confederate flag,
unable to accept his true inheritance
because hatred was all he had.
Whose timing was bad June 17th, 2015
when Dylann visited the Emmanuel AME,
received by unwitting Clementa Pinckney
as he embraced the confederacy.
You best believe there was much despair
amid solemn prayer of God’s faithful crew,
for the soaring bullets that filled the air
left 9 dead once Roof was thru!
Fulfilling his roots of hate and division
lest deterred from the error of his judgment,
Emmanuel’s love of God was in position
face to face w/hate thru a musket.

Arm in arm with centuries of racism
amid a massacre in the house of the Lord,
having lost a historical fight for statism
surrendering again to U.S. courts.
Stumbling into the power of forgiveness
from the children of Charleston, S. Carolina,
whose amazing grace made us bear witness
to needed change's tearful reminders.
